beef in the world
Matsusaka, in Mie Prefecture, holds a world record: the most expensive beef ever sold at auction — up to 50 million yen per head.
This wagyu is one of Japan's three great historic wagyu breeds, alongside Kobe and Omi. Its legendary status has remained intact for three centuries.
Unique criterion: only virgin bulls can bear the authentic label — no other prefecture follows this rule.
and sanctuary
Matsusaka is located between Ise Bay and the sacred mountains that house Japan's oldest Shinto shrine.
Mild climate, marine humidity, protected pastures. Cattle there receive a ritualized diet: manual massages, craft beer, fermented grains.
Each breeder owns only a handful of animals. Breeding lasts over 36 months — unique in the world.
